Arrest of teen suspect

MOSES LAKE – Two 15-year-old boys are now in custody following a distressing series of events that culminated in a violent assault on Thursday. The arrest occurred after a tense pursuit through a local neighborhood in the afternoon.

According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, deputies alongside Moses Lake Police responded to an urgent call at approximately 3:50 p.m in the Larson Housing area. A resident on Mather Drive reported witnessing two young males, one of whom brandished a handgun, sprinting through their backyard. Law enforcement swiftly arrived at the scene, establishing a perimeter and initiating a pursuit that saw the suspects dart through multiple yards.

The chase continued as the teens entered a residence on Shaw Street, fleeing out the back door in an attempt to evade capture. The pursuit ended in the 1400 block of West Craig Street where one of the suspects was found hiding in a garbage can and the other concealed in a shed.

One of the boys has been detained on suspicion of first-degree assault related to an earlier incident in which he allegedly pistol-whipped a man in the Larson Community. He also faces charges of burglary and trespassing. The second teen is being held for similar charges of burglary and trespassing. Both are currently lodged at the Grant County Youth Services facility.

This arrest followed an incident on Tuesday when deputies reported that the two approached a man in the Larson Community, brandishing a firearm. The situation escalated when one of the teens struck the man with the gun as he attempted to disarm the youth.

A search was conducted in the home on Shaw Street and along the path of the boys' escape attempt, though the handgun involved in these incidents has not yet been recovered. Neighbors' surveillance footage confirmed the presence of the firearm during the pursuit.

The investigation is ongoing, and law enforcement urges anyone with further information to come forward to assist with the case.
