OLYMPIA - Firework injuries and fires in Washington state surpassed 300 so far in 2019.
The Washington state fire marshal’s office released its firework-related incident tally. Of the 331 reports of firework incidents reported by hospitals, clinics and fire agencies, 297 occurred between June 28 and July 5.
The majority of injuries were caused by people holding fireworks while they were lit or standing too close to fireworks once they were lit. The total is on-par with recent year-over-year trends.
In Mason County, there were two injuries caused by fireworks but no fires. In Thurston County, there were three injuries caused by fireworks and three pyrotechnic-caused fires.
