Olympia Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fire at 515 Adams St. S.E. at 7:57 pm, Thursday evening. The first engine arrived within 5 minutes to find a medium two-story apartment building with a working fire on the second floor. The engine company stretched a fire hose to the second floor and extinguished the fire within five minutes of arriving on scene. The fire was confined to the apartment of origin. The apartment's occupant was out of the building when the fire started.
The building did have working smoke detectors, but no fire sprinklers. Two apartment units could not be reoccupied; one due to fire and one due to water damage. The fire investigation is still ongoing. No injuries have been reported at this time, the fire damage is estimated to be $40,000.
Olympia Fire Department responded with four engines, one ladder truck, two medic units and a command unit. Lacey Fire Dist. 3 responded mutual aid with one engine, one truck and one command unit. Lacey units were cancelled shortly after their arrival.
