Shelton, WA- Wednesday afternoon at approximately 1:57, firefighters from Central Mason Fire and EMS were dispatched to the report of a structure fire in the 800 block of West Cota Street. 

Upon arrival firefighters found heavy fire involvement coming from the roof of a two story 6-plex. There was also heavy fire showing from the exterior wall that was threatening a neighboring structure. 

All occupants were accounted for and firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly. The fire caused significant damage to two of the apartment units as well as the roof. 

Due to the extent of the damage, the structure was deemed unsafe by the Shelton building official. Red Cross was taking care of the occupants of the building and there were no injuries. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the Shelton Police were called in to assist. Central Mason Fire and EMS were assisted by Mason County Fire districts 4 and 11 as well as Mason PUD 3 and the Shelton Police. Damage was estimated at about $80,000.
