OLYMPIA — Washington State Patrol was investigating a crash Wednesday afternoon on northbound Interstate 5 at the U.S. Highway 101 interchange involving a FedEx tractor trailer that dumped much of its freight load.

State patrol Trooper Johnna Batiste said there were no injuries. It was unclear Wednesday afternoon what caused the driver to lose control of the load.

Batiste said the rear trailer of the rig rolled, causing it to split apart and dump packages and other items.

The crash backed up northbound traffic and also affected southbound traffic, which was partially impeded by debris and state officials clearing the scene at the center divider.
