GRAND MOUND — West Thurston Fire District and Washington Department of Natural Resources firefighters extinguished two back-to-back brush and grass fires on Thursday morning.

No structures were damaged in the July Fourth fires: A five-acre blaze along 191st Avenue Southwest in Grand Mound and a one-acre fire along Carper Road Southwest, also in Grand Mound.

Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fires.
