Mason County Sheriff's deputies searched for the body of Andrew Aldrich, who went missing Jan. 4 near Allyn. His body was finally found floating in waters near Grapeview, off Stretch Point State Park.

ALLYN — The Mason County Coroner has confirmed the identity of body found floating in Case Inlet near Stretch Island on Friday.

Coroner Wes Stockwell on Monday positively identified the apparent drowning victim as Andrew Wayne Aldrich, 31.

Stockwell said the cause of death is presumed to be saltwater drowning.

Aldrich was reported missing on the night of Jan. 4 after departing a friend's sailboat in a kayak near Allyn's North Bay.

Mason County Sheriff’s Office reported that Aldrich was last scene on the kayak without a life jacket. He was heading toward shore to pick up items from his vehicle parked ashore, which was about 300 yards away.

Aldrich’s body was recovered Friday afternoon near Stretch Point State Park near Grapeview. A kayaker spotted the body and reported it.

A witness said he never saw Aldrich return to his boat. Sheriff’s deputies did not find anyone on board Aldridge's boat during a search in which the U.S. Coast Guard assisted.

The sheriff’s marine division recovered the body with the assistance of Mason County Fire District 3 firefighters in Grapeview.
