SHELTON (VIDEO) — Mason PUD 3 celebrated 80 years of service to the community Tuesday with a special customer appreciation day.

PUD 3 served a free lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs to customers and gave out a free PUD 3 history book, chronicling the formation, growth, challenges and success of Mason PUD 3 over the last 80 years.

Starting with 8 customers in 1939, PUD 3 now serves 34,000 customers in Mason County.

Mason PUD 3 Public Information Officer Joel Myer says the PUD and local residents work hand-in-hand with one another.

"It's the people that came together to form public utility districts," said Myer.

The book titled “The Power Behind Our Community” Mason County PUD 3’s first 80 years took more than a year to put together.  One book per household were given away to PUD 3 customers at the event.
