POTLATCH — Mason County Sheriff’s Office is searching the High Steel Bridge area for a missing hiker.

The hiker is a soldier from Joint Base Lewis McChord who was out with a friend near the bridge on Sunday, the sheriff’s office stated in a tweet.

The search-and-rescue operation is taking place west of Potlatch in Olympic National Forest.

High Steel Bridge is a truss arch bridge that spans the south fork of the Skokomish River on Forest Service Road 2202.
