Maple Fire

HAMMA HAMMA — A wildfire located west of highway 101, northwest of the community of Eldon has grown to 411 acres as of Wednesday morning.

The Olympic National Forest wildfire named the “Maple Fire” is burning in steep and rugged forested terrain.

The fire is 5 percent contained with no estimated time frame for full containment.

More than 160 personnel are working the fire and two Black Hawk Helicopters are assisting with holding the Eastern flank of the fire as well as keeping the fire South of the Jefferson Ridge Line.

The Hamma Hamma road leading into the Lena Lake area is on a Level 1 evacuation notice. This means “get ready”, know what you need to take with you, maintain awareness about the wildfire activity around you and be alert to evacuation level increases.

The Olympic National Forest has closed the Jefferson Ridge Trail and Elk Lake Trail as well as their trailheads. The 2401, 2421 and 2480 roads are closed to public access.

A temporary flight restriction has been put in place over the wildfire area restricting public access for aircrafts including drones.

The fire’s cause is still under investigation.
