SHELTON — A young black bear was hit by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 101, leaving the scene uninjured Friday morning, according to Washington State Patrol.

The bear left after it came into friendly contact with responding law enforcement authorities.

State patrol Trooper Chelsea Hodgson said the collision occurred on 101 at Purdy Cutoff Road Friday morning.

Hodgson posted photos of the brief bear encounter with a state trooper that followed, with the bear peering through a state trooper’s patrol car window.

Luckily, there were no obvious signs of injury to the bear,” Hodgson reported on Facebook. “After telling their side of the story, the bear refused aid and wandered back into the woods.”
