SHELTON (VIDEO) — The Mason County Sheriff’s Office had to follow proper protocol and call in the Washington State Patrol bomb squad from Orting Tuesday morning, after a Blasting Cap was brought to the sheriff’s office by a community resident around 10 a.m.

The resident found the blasting cap in his driveway of West Manor Rd along Highway 101 between Shelton and Taylor Town.

Mason County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jason Dracolby says blasting caps are commonly used to ignite lager explosives, such as TNT or dynamite.

"It appears to be military grade," said Dracolby

Sheriff’s officials took precaution and placed the blasting cap across the street in a gravel parking lot until the bomb squad arrived.. Chief Deputy Dracolby advises residents to first call the sheriff’s office if they find a suspicious device, instead of bringing it straight to the Sheriff’s office.

"We don't want you blown up when you're brining it to us," said Dracolby. "You just never know."

Sheriff’s officials expect the bomb squad to care of the issue in short time. No evacuation orders for nearby building have been made.
