SHELTON (AUDIO) — An 18-year-old driver and his passenger sustained minor injures Monday afternoon after the vehicle he was driving plunged into Lake Cushman.

Mason County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Ryan Spurling reports that the teen was driving on dirt roads on the northwest side of the lake.

Spurling said the vehicle traveled more than 80 feet over the embankment into the water. He said the driver was unsure of his speed at the time of the crash.

Mason County Sheriff’s report that the two teens were out of the vehicle and on shore by the time deputies arrived.

Spurling said it is not known at this time if drugs or alcohol were involved and that the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Spurling recommends drivers operate with extra caution while driving on dirt roads.
