LACEY (VIDEO) — Work has begun on a $5.9 million road improvement project on College Street, which includes a 22nd Avenue roundabout and widening between 18th and 25th avenues.
Clearing of former homes and trees at 22nd Avenue was done last week to make way for a realignment of the street at the future roundabout.
City officials said the 22nd Avenue roundabout will be constructed during summer break so it will not affect Mountain View Elementary School, which is at the northeast corner of the intersection.

Work is expected to be completed in fall 2020.

Lacey Mayor Andy Ryder said College Street, which is Lacey’s main north-south route, has been long overdue for widening, which will include new sidewalks and landscaping.

Wiggins and Ruddell roads are the recommended alternative routes while the College Street work is done.
