With so much snow falling across the region over the last five days, it’s easy to see how it would be piling up just about everywhere.

One place, however, that it is not allowed to remain once it has fallen, is your vehicle. If, that is, you plan to drive it on the public road system.

Trooper John Bryant with the Washington State Patrol (WSP) tells iFIBER ONE News that the law requires motorists to clear the snow from their vehicles before driving them. This includes all of the windows and exterior mirrors, as well as the headlights and taillights, side marker lamps, and the front and rear license plates.

Bryant also says that any ice or other weather-related debris, such as snow from the bed of a pickup truck, must also be properly removed so that it does not pose a potential hazard to other motorists.

Most folks who fail to clean the snow and ice from their vehicles who are contacted by law enforcement are generally given a friendly reminder according to Bryant, but drivers should know that they are subject to a $136 citation as well.
