GRAND MOUND - Tornadic activity was spotted by witnesses and confirmed by the National Weather Service in Thurston County on Friday. The National Weather Service office in Seattle says a weak tornado touched down southeast of the town of Grand Mound just before 2 p.m.

The tornado touchded down in an area where there were no structures in a field south of Tenino Grand Mound Road. The twister did not cause damaged nor are there any reports of injuries.

The preliminary determination of the tornado’s strength is EF-U (unknown), but its width was less than 50 feet and its path last less than 100 feet touching down for less than 1 minute. The tornado formed unexpectedly with no tornado warning in effect. This is the second tornado that has touched down in the south sound in less than a year.

In December 2018, a tornado damaged hundreds of structures and injured several people.
