ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Tom Murphy homered twice and drove in four runs, Austin Nola also went deep and had three RBIs, and the Seattle Mariners beat the playoff-contending Tampa Bay Rays 9-3. Murphy, who had three hits and a walk, hit a three-run drive in the first inning and added a solo shot in the fifth. Nola had a two-run homer during a four-run second off Rays two-way player Brendan McKay and had an RBI single in the fourth. Marco Gonzales went five innings, giving up three runs and five hits to get the win.
SEATTLE (AP) - Russell Wilson, Ciara and Macklemore say they are honored to be part of the Seattle Sounders ownership group. The Seahawks quarterback and his wife, along with the Grammy Award-winning hip hop artist, say a sense of community drew them into join the Sounders ownership group. The three are among several new investors who have bought into the franchise, taking up the share of the club previously owned by Hollywood producer Joe Roth.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf will have minor knee surgery, an early setback for an offense that's counting on the second-round draft pick. Metcalf was held out of the preseason game at Minnesota, and coach Pete Carroll says the rookie from Mississippi will have a procedure done this week. The injury was discovered earlier this week. Carroll says the team believes it will not "derail him for long." Metcalf was selected by Seattle with the 64th overall pick.
