NEW YORK (AP) - Seattle coach Dan Hughes knows that this weekend's game against Minnesota will be more emotional for him than many others the team has played this season. It's the Storm's annual Breast Health Awareness night and Hughes is a cancer survivor.
UNDATED (AP) - The man who invented the snowboard and laid the groundwork for a multibillion-dollar industry has died. Sherman Poppen died at 89 at his home in Griffin, Georgia, on July 31. In 1965, while living in Michigan, Poppen was looking for a way to entertain his daughters on a snowy Christmas Day. So he strapped two skis together and held them in place with wooden crossbars. His wife dubbed it a "Snurfer." A year later, he got a patent on the contraption.
