SHELTON (VIDEO) — Each year, thousands of Washingtonians go fishing legally, without a license, on "Free Fishing Weekend," scheduled for June 8-9.

During those two days, no license is required to fish or gather shellfish in any waters open to fishing in Washington State.

Popular fishing options include trout in lowland lakes and rivers in Mason and Thurston counties.

Hatchery Steelhead fishing is also a big hit on rivers on the Olympic Peninsula.

No vehicle access pass or Discover Pass will be required during Free Fishing Weekend to park at water-access sites maintained by Fish and Wildlife or Washington State Parks.

Discover Pass will be required on Washington State Department of Natural Resources’ lands both days.
