SHELTON (VIDEO) – Strength was on full display at Shelton High School as the highclimbers hosted more than a dozen schools at the Shelton Power Lifting Invitational.

More than 150 powerlifters from across the state came to Shelton to compete.

The Shelton boys team placed 1st overall in competition while the girls team placed 5th. Overall 20 total lifters from Shelton High School qualified for the state powerlifting championships.

Two Shelton lifters Cody Garcia and Michael Gilman broke freshman school records in the deadlift. Gilman lifting at 165 pounds, deadlifted 430 pounds breaking the previous Freshman class record, which had held since 1979.

Gilman was happy to see all his hard work this season pay off

The State Power lifting Championships will be held at Northwest Christian High School in Lacey, May 5th.
