Zags v Dubs

(Joe Nicholson / USA TODAY Sports)

SPOKANE- The Gonzaga and University of Washington men’s basketball programs have agreed to continue to play each other annually for another four years. This coming 2019-2020 season was the end of the original agreement made three years ago, but another four years will be added, making the series last a total of eight years and it will run through the 2023-2024 season.

These two in-state rivals hadn’t played each other in 10 years when the original agreement was reached prior to the 2016-2017 season. The first two years of this rivalry resulted in two blowout wins by Gonzaga, 98-71 and 97-70. This last season, the matchup was extremely competitive with the Zags holding on 81-79.

Both teams are trending in the right direction, with Washington signing two Top 7 recruits this offseason and the Zags constantly loaded with upperclassman talent. Washington leads the all-time series 29-18 and this aims to be a competitive rivalry for the next five years.
