SEATTLE (AP) - Ryan Yarbrough came within an out of his first career shutout, Eric Sogard hit a solo homer and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Seattle Mariners 1-0. Yarbrough retired his final 14 batters and struck out eight while throwing 8 2/3 innings of three-hit ball, but he was replaced after 99 pitches by Emilio Pagan for the final out. Pagan retired pinch-hitter Omar Narvaez on a grounder for his third save of the series and 12th overall.

NEW YORK (AP) - Alysha Clark has been collecting toys for the Seattle Children's Hospital for the past six or seven years, having donated over 10,000. This year, she wanted to do more. The Seattle Storm guard remembered a conversation she had with a young boy she met there. He wanted to help other kids at the hospital. At his behest, she decided to try and raise $5,000 for the dialysis unit. She reached that total in just four days.

UNDATED (AP) - Most of the attention surrounding transfers this offseason justifiably has focused on the high-profile quarterbacks who have switched schools. RENTON, Wash. (AP) - When safety Marquise Blair was drafted in the second round by the Seattle Seahawks, he brought with him to the NFL the reputation as a big hitter. That's what happens when you're ejected twice from college games for targeting. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that one of the most notable moments from Seattle's preseason opener centered on Blair and riding that fine line between what's a legal hit and what will draw a flag in the NFL.
