SEATTLE (AP) - Mallex Smith doubled leading off the eighth inning and scored when Daniel Vogelbach beat out a potential inning-ending double play, and the Seattle Mariners snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres. Anthony Bass pitched the ninth for his second save and capped four solid innings from Seattle's bullpen. Matt Magill (3-0) pitched the eighth to get the victory.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) - Barkevious Mingo is all about being a defensive end. The former first-round pick is in favor of moving back to the position where he was a star in college. The Seahawks will get their first look at Mingo there when they open their preseason schedule hosting Denver on Thursday night.
