The future site of the Shelton-Mason County YMCA.

[Shelton/Mason County, October 10, 2019] — Mason County is about to get healthier in mind, body, and spirit. For over two decades, local volunteers have worked to bring a vibrant, community-based organization that supports, kids, families, and seniors to Mason County. The wait is over! The South Sound YMCA invites the community to join in a ceremonial groundbreaking event for the new Shelton/Mason County YMCA.

Phase One of this project includes a half-sized gym, health and fitness area, Kid Zone, space for our community partners, and an outdoor activity pool (covered during the colder months) for year-round programming. Partners co-locating in the new facility include Mason General Hospital, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington, PAC Mountain Workforce Development, and Peninsula Community Credit Union.

Kyle Cronk, South Sound YMCA’s CEO, says he is excited to bring the Y’s mission to the community. “The Y is more than a place to work out — we’re a place of community. Of course, members will have access to new machines, a basketball court, and a swimming pool, but there will be so much more. Y programs and partnerships will help individuals gain job skills, improve their financial health, and foster our next generation of community leaders.”

The ceremonial groundbreaking is set for Tuesday, November 5, at 11:00 a.m. at 3101 Shelton Springs Road. All community members are encouraged to attend.

The Shelton YMCA is being built thanks to numerous donations from community members, local businesses, and foundations, including gifts of $1M each from Green Diamond Resource Company and the Norcliffe Foundation. Thanks to the significant community support, the project also qualified for over $4M in grants from State and Federal programs. If you missed the chance to contribute, there’s still time.
