SHELTON — Aging traffic signal equipment at Fourth Street and Railroad Avenue requires a change in stoplights at the downtown intersection.

City of Shelton officials on Tuesday said beginning at 4 p.m. Feb. 24 the traffic signal will flash yellow for motorists traveling east and west on Railroad Avenue.

The signal for Fourth Street north-south traffic will flash red for vehicles.

The traffic signal change will also result in the pedestrian crosswalk signals being disabled at the intersection.

City crews will be collecting data at the intersection to determine the best option for the signal replacement.

City official stated that a flashing red signal requires drivers to make a complete stop before proceeding.

A flashing yellow signal allows drivers to proceed cautiously through the intersection without stopping.
